Red Diamond- Merlot

I love a good Merlot.

And this was definitely a good Merlot. It was sweet but in the best kind of red wine way.

It was the perfect end to our little dinner date night in. 🙂


Cellar No. 8- Pinot Noir

Boyfriend and I did a combined effort at dinner one night. In the midst of completion we realized we were missing one very key element. Wine.

Stoves got turned down and boyfriend ran to the store and picked up 3 wines. Our first was one that I’ve already done a review on, that we used as well in the recipe, Red Velvet . You can find that review here:

Then we had the Cellar No. 8 Pinot Noir.

Now, it may have been because it followed the Red Velvet, but we found this wine to be a little on the bland side. As I said I prefer my pinots a little bit more fruity, but even boyfriend made a comment about it. Disappointing, we were really looking forward to trying it.

Dinner though was amazing. I unfortunately didn’t get a photo of it as we scarfed it down like no tomorrow. We did beef teriyaki rice bowls.

I used a thin chuck roast I found on sale, we sliced it up and added teriyaki sauce, A-1, pepper, and some Red Velvet wine. We let it simmer for a while (last minute wine run), so it was amazingly tender, and put it over instant rice (fancy I know). Throw some hot sauce on the finished product, and we have a success. 🙂

Bluefeld- Riesling

This is the wine that has gotten me on this huge Riesling kick. It has completely ruined my pallet for other whites. I’m completely infatuated with this wine.

I have never come across a wine that I crave more than this one. It’s so sweet and fruity without being completely overpowering.

Boyfriend put it perfectly “It smells like fruit. It taste likes fruit.” But all in the best ways!

181- Merlot

This 2009 181 Merlot was wonderful. It had a rich flavor of black cherries, and was rather sweet for a Merlot. I can honestly say this is one that I could even see myself drinking during those hot summer months instead of sticking to a cool sweet white, like normal during that time.

This French/Nappa wine has a 14% alcohol content, and is perfectly described in the back. I apologize for not getting a better shot. I’m limited with my photography tools for now. Overall though, this is a must try!


I went on a cupcake binge…

This is the Chardonnay. It was pretty good, not my favorite, but would compliment a meal very nicely. Possibly the recipe I just posted? Click the picture for recipe.

This is the Riesling. It was really good. Sweet, but not overpowering. I’ve been on a Riesling kick lately, so I apologize if there tends to be a bunch of Riesling posts.

I also had the Malbec. It was a dryer wine, but had excellent flavor.

The Red Velvet was delicious! It was a sweeter red, and boy, could you taste the fruit!

Kavikas Grill & Bar and the Aquarium of the Pacific

Last April a few friends and I went to the taste of Long Beach, which was amazing. While we were there we acquired free tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific. Sunday was the last day we could use them, so up to Long Beach I went!

The Aquarium usually closes at 6:00 pm, BUT since it was Spring Break, they were open until 9:00. So, as we’re about to walk to the Aquarium entrance, we see a dancing sign for Happy Hour at Kavikas.

It’s pretty rare to actually come across a Happy Hour at 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon, but boy were we glad we found it!

I ordered a Newcastle  Winter, I think, it wasn’t a normal Newcastle, and I apologize for not remembering exactly which one,  but it was delicious! And I got the keep the glass. 🙂

We shared the North Shore Nachos, which includes: Won Ton Crisps, Grilled Chicken, Pepper Jack Cheese, Mozzarella Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Tropical Salsa, and Sour Cream. Not going to lie, it was pretty awesome. It was a little to sweet for my friend Claudia, but it was perfect for me. And it was $5.
